Not to be confused with the 2015 film Chappie, or with other apps that have “Chappie” in their name. On Google Play the Chappie English speaking app is listed as “Chappie - Speak Better English”, and on the App Store as “Speak & Learn English: Chappie”, both by Emberflow Pte Ltd.
What does Chappie do?
Chappie gives you somewhere private to practise the conversations you’re nervous about, out loud, as many times as you like. The idea behind it is simple: most people who struggle to speak English already know enough English. What they’ve never had is practice saying it with a little pressure on, and someone to tell them what to change. Why you understand English but can’t speak it is the longer version.
- 1
Pick a situation
A job interview, a visa interview, a client call, a university viva, a stand-up at work. Or describe the conversation you’re dreading and Chappie sets it up.
- 2
Answer out loud
Speak the way you would in the room. Chappie listens to the whole answer and replies the way the other person would.
- 3
See exactly what to fix
Word-by-word notes on pronunciation, grammar, word choice and fluency, in Sinhala, Tamil or Hindi if you’d rather.
- 4
Say it again
Repeat the sentence until it sounds like you. By then the real conversation feels like one you’ve already had.
What can you practise in Chappie?
The built-in situations are the ones people dread most:
- Job interviews (see how to answer “Tell me about yourself”)
- Visa interviews (see visa interview questions)
- Client calls and phone calls with customers
- University vivas and presentations to your manager
- Daily stand-ups and explaining a delay (see what to do when you freeze in a meeting)
- Salary negotiation and small talk with colleagues
- Hospital appointments and ordering abroad
- Your own situation: describe it, and Chappie builds the practice around it
What feedback does Chappie give?

| AreaFluency | What you seeFiller words (“um”, “actually”), long pauses, and the places you speed up because you’re unsure. |
What do learners say about Chappie?

Been using the app for the last month. My speaking is better now
Every written review from the Sri Lanka App Store and Google Play, word for word, is on Chappie reviews.
Is Chappie free?
It’s free to download on iPhone and Android and starts with a free trial. After the trial it’s a subscription, and the price is shown in the app before you pay, in your store’s currency. On 27 September 2026, Google Play listed Chappie’s in-app purchases at LKR 1,000 to LKR 8,375 per item. If you’d like to compare the free options first, see free English speaking apps in Sri Lanka.
Does Chappie work in Sinhala and Tamil?
Yes, for the explanations. You speak in English, because that’s the skill you’re building, and Chappie can explain each correction in Sinhala, Tamil or Hindi so you know why it was wrong. There are pages for Sinhala speakers and Tamil speakers.
How is Chappie different from other apps?
A general chatbot can hold a conversation, but you have to design the practice and ask for corrections yourself; Chappie comes with the situations and the feedback built in (practising with ChatGPT or Gemini shows what that takes). A pronunciation app drills single sounds; Chappie works on whole conversations and points out the sounds inside them. A lesson app teaches words and grammar, which you already have; Chappie is for saying them. And a tutor or a class explains English once or twice a week; Chappie is the daily practice in between, at any hour, with nobody listening. App, tutor or class? weighs them up properly.
What do you need to use Chappie?
An iPhone or an Android phone with a working microphone, an internet connection (the listening and the feedback run online), and a reasonably quiet spot. Speak at a normal volume, the way you’d speak to a person. Ten minutes is enough; a short session most days does more than a long one on Sunday.
Who makes Chappie?
Chappie is developed and operated by Emberflow Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based technology company. The team works from Colombo and Singapore. For help, write to support@chappie.pro or visit support.
